A new suspension bridge has opened in Switzerland that will give thrill-seeking pedestrians incredible views of the scenic Bernese Alps.

The Charles Kuonen[a] Suspension Bridge is 494 meters long and 65 centimeters wide. The footbridge can only be crossed in single file, New Atlas reported.

The bridge connects the resort towns of Grchen [b]and Zermatt [c]at a height of 85m.

The bridge uses hydraulic cylinders to regulate tension and prevent it from swinging.

The now former world's longest suspension footbridge is the 390-meter long Kokonoe [d]Dream bridge in Japan. It is about 100m shorter than the Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge.

The Zermatt tourism office said the bridge is most suitable for hikers with no fear of heights as it is possible to look into the precipice below one's feet through the grated surface.
