This summer in Europe will be rather special as travelers are eager to explore nature again. So if you want to know where to go in Austria and are looking for the best travel ideas for Europe, you cannot go wrong with Zell am See. The lake is plain beautiful and sets the perfect scenery for the most relaxing summer vacation and best summer trip. Zell am See is close to Kaprun. It also features what may be the best grand hotel for 2021 in the region. So welcome to Zell am See, your next "Österreich Urlaub" destination.

Whether you plan for an Austria day trip or a longer Austria travel to Vienna, Salzburg or the Salzkammergut, there is so much to see in this beautiful Alpine country.

The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.

What can you do in Zell am See in summer? Well, Zell am See is clearly a great destination for hiking in summer. You can take fantastic walks around the lake and the views with the backdrop of the mountains are really spectacular. A multitude of walking paths and easy walking trails offer plenty of variety for scenic walks. The Grand Hotel Zell am See is a real eye catcher and is situated directly at the shore of Lake Zell.

Taking a walking tour through the old town and pedestrian zone of Zell am See is another must-do. A nice selection of small local shops sells everything from touristy goods to clothing and sports equipment. The hotels and restaurants are a bit on the pricey side for Austrian standards. This may be a result of the town’s popularity with tourists visiting from all over the world.

If you have some time, take a panorama boat cruise on Lake Zell and enjoy the beautiful views from the water side. Boat trips are about Euros 15 per person and thus quite affordable. If you feel more like getting a bit of exercise, rent one of the pedal boats on the lake. You can also rent a bike and take a bike tour around Lake Zell.

Taking the Schmittenbahn cable car up to Schmittenhoehe and hiking up on the mountain is another activity you can do during the summer. Alternatively, the Austrian town of Kaprun is only a 10-minute drive away from Zell am See. There you must visit the Siegfried-Thun Klamm, an impressive mountain gorge with plenty of waterfalls and dramatic views that you can walk through on a wooden pathway.
