I have put together a little guide for any British families thinking of going to Gerlos in Austria for a ski or snowboard trip.

We just got back and had the best time. Before we booked I looked all over YouTube to find some vids to try to get the feeling of Gerlos without any luck. Most of the people that go there seem to be German or Dutch, which is cool, but I couldn’t understand their videos and just had to enjoy the scenery.

We were so glad we went. It’s a really chilled out medium sized ski resort, hardly any queues, lots of times we had runs to ourselves, great mountain restaurants and a good choice down in Gerlos itself after the last lift.

I would recommend this place to any family looking to start skiing or boarding or get better. More experienced groups could possibly cover everything relatively quickly, don’t expect 3 Valleys size or volume of runs, but there are lots of long pistes and interesting terrain to occupy intermediates for a week. Also the ski pass applies to 3 or 4 different areas including Mayrhofen, so if you get up early and catch a bus (also on the lift pass) you can get a lot of snow under your board.
