Back in the 1960s when Noel Brian Ranasinghe and his band emerged on to the music scene of then Ceylon wearing their trade mark uniform, sarongs and straw hats, they were called all sorts of names like Rasthiyaadu Kaarayo, Maalu Kaarayo etc
Noel created the Sri Lankan Calypso, with a local flavour. He was influenced heavily by the Latin American band Trio Los Paraguayos, who used harp for their compositions. Novel used Banjos and Acoustic Guitars for his band. Please log on to the next presentation " Nandana Vindana" song / visual No 32 (i) which has been uploaded with this presentation.
Whilst in the school back in 1958 Noel formed his first band The Flames with his friend Anton Ratnayake They sang country and western songs Later in the 60s band shifted their repertoire for Sinhala only songs and started La Ceylonians with six members. Ceylonese Calypso became the de facto music style of the hotels & became very popular among tourists
Then G M of Mt. Lavinia Hotel in the 1960 hired the band & they became the first band to entertain from table to table in Sri Lankan hotels Band was very much in demand at overseas functions organized by the Ceylon Tourist Board & travelled to the US India Germany Netherlands Austria Switzerland Taiwan & Japan They had a number of hits including Tharuna Jeevithe influenced by Cliff Richards The Young Ones. Ruwanmali is one of La Ceylonianss popular original songs.

GREEN SCREEN (CHROMA KEYING) as you are aware,
(i) Has a live performance videoed in front of a green screen (foreground),
(ii) The background being either a video stream or a "picture post card".
Chroma keying provides a composite video of (i) + (ii) as a single video. stream
(like what you see for weather forecasts in foreign Tv stations).
Fading of the foreground signal in green screen technique ?
CHROMA KEYED SCENES
(1) The 3 Musicians in the foreground & a background picture of a tea estate and factory - call it a "picture post card" The Singer not in the picture.
(time stamp this scene occurs is 00:01 to 00:18 & other points).
This visual /audio will be called "MUSICAL GROUP"
(2) large size faded image of the singer is in the foreground at some points of this video ; The Singer is superimposed on the background video of the "MUSICAL GROUP" of (1) above. The resultant chromo keyed video shows the Musicians continuing to play in the picture post card scene with the foreground singer .(at some points of the video only) . The Singer's image does NOT block out the background - but more of a "see through" onto the "MUSICAL GROUP " in the background.
The scene is at 00:17 to 00:32 & other points)
(3) A bold (NOT FADED) image of the singer in the foreground & the background of ONLY the original "picture post card" slightly differently positioned.
NO "MUSICAL GROUP" .
Green Spill resulting in a hue surrounding the singer's image
(The scene is at 00:34 to 01:02 & other points)
STAGES OF RECORDING / CHROMA KEYING AND MERGING OF THE THREE DIFFERENT SCENES TO PRODUCE THE FINAL PRODUCT. (Subject to correction - Pl inform on errors)
[A] Recording R1 - Musicians playing in front of the green screen with the picture post card scene as the background, The song is sung but the Singer is not in the picture
R1 is thus the full recording of the song of the "MUSICAL GROUP" (includes only the vocal of the singer)
[B] The singer is videoed in front of the green screen. The Background is the video stream of (recording) R1 (audio / visual ). The audio in the recording R1 is played for the singer to lip sync. The video graphing could be as follows:
(a) A new recording R2 is done using inputs of stream R1 & from the output of the chroma keying equipment. (Note - R1 video stream is also given as backgroud for chroma keying) .The Chroma keying equipment output is switch in (to R2) at points where the image of the singer has to appear overlaid on the background.
(b) Probably the Chroma Keying equipment ? (or a mixer ?) has the facility of fading etc (mixing / transition ) the foreground sub video sub- stream to the chroma key equipment ?.
This provides the superimposed effect; (see through the singer's images) - as referred to in (2) above
[C] The singer is in front of the green screen. The Background is the "picture post card" , slightly re-positioned. The audio of recording R2 played for the singer to lip sync. This produces a new chromo keyed video stream (say S4) The video graphing new recording R3 as follows:
(a) Video streams of R2 & new video stream S4 are switched to produce the final R3 recording.
This time it is a hard cut (in and out) for stream S4 (at the required points) during "mixing"
[D] final Nandana Vindana recording (ie the R3 version) is produced.
