Salzburg is an Austrian city on the border with Germany and overlooking the Eastern Alps. The city is bisected by the River Salzach and, on the left bank, has medieval and baroque buildings in the pedestrian-only Altstadt (Old Town) and faces the 19th-century Neustadt (New Town) on the right bank. The composer Mozart's birthplace in Altstadt is preserved as a museum and displays his childhood instruments.
