A great deal of effort is required to conserve the landscape in Nockberge Biosphere Reserve (Austria). Alpine soils are very thin, especially in areas around summits. They withstand wind and weather. When user traffic is too heavy, they erode and require costly restoration measures as a result. More information on the topic of soil at: http://www.bafu.admin.ch/soil
