Last year, today, Austria went into the very first lockdown. And I am happy to take you through the quiet Historical City Center of Vienna.

Today Ulli Sima shared this statement in her Facebook post to remember the first time Austria went in a total Corona lockdown:

"It became quiet in Vienna a year ago. With total lockdown on March 16., 2020, the pandemic, the corona crisis, was suddenly real. Our lives were upside down and many things that were normal for us appeared in a different light. It was also a completely new and above all challenging situation for me. What else will come?" She wrote

"There was enough to do," she continued "but it was necessary to maintain the central areas of daily life as garbage disposal, energy supply, drinking water supply and much more at the usual high level."

"For the markets, we adopted a number of safety measures in wind ropes to ensure that fresh air shopping was still possible. Yes - and then there were the federal gardens: Minister Köstinger had closed short hand because walking in the fresh air was so dangerous. While we left our municipal parks open naturally, so that people can reach out during these difficult times. The feet were represented, thousands of Viennese suddenly stood in front of the closed Augarten, the castle garden or the park in Schönbrunn. The protests were big and the federal government finally had to step in, the federal gardens were then reopened after Easter" wrote Ulli Sima

"On the anniversary," she continued, "I would like to thank all the employees of the city of Vienna, who truly do great things, of course, mainly in hospitals, nursing, but also in schools, kindergartens and especially in the areas of communal general interest. You all can always be trusted, the Viennese appreciate that. We stick together in Vienna - and together we will survive this crisis. Thank you to the MA 01 team at this point - this has been making sure that we are all equipped with good technical infrastructure for the people of this city even in these challenging times."
