Schönbrunn (Schloss Schönbrunn) was the official summer palace of the powerful Habsburg dynasty.
It became the heart of court life during warm months and hosted grand receptions, concerts, political negotiations, and private imperial life.

Although Sissi (Elisabeth of Bavaria) preferred Hofburg Palace and later lived more often abroad, Schönbrunn was the place where she spent the early years of her imperial life, attended ceremonies, and fulfilled her public duties.
