On 17 July 2025, we parked on the Seichenbrunn parking lot (1,666 m) in Debanttal, which is located at the end of the gravel road. We decided to make a one-day trip to the summit of the Petzeck (3,283 m), the highest peak of the Schobergruppe (Hohe Tauern – Austria). As it snowed above 3,000 m altitude the night before, we were not sure if we could make it to the top. So, we decided to start the hike (around 8:30 am) and to evaluate the situation at the Wangenitzsee (2,508 m). About two hours later, we arrived at the lake. We saw the snow layers were in general quite thin and were disappearing rather quickly, so we decided to continue. The hike was quite intense, as the trail was continuously steep, apart from the sections near the lakes. Some of us experienced some discomfort as we approached 3,000 meters, where the lower oxygen concentrations caused slight headaches and reduced the energy levels. From this altitude onward, there were some minor snow patches we had to cross, but without any risks. Despite the cloudiness when we arrived at the summit, we could still enjoy some nice views of the Schobergruppe and surrounding area. After staying at the top for about 40 minutes, we descended for over four hours towards the parking lot. In the end, it appeared to be one of the most intense one-day hiking trips we ever did.
