Fussen is a very pleasant surprise for us at the end of the Romantic Road. At the foot of the Alps and a few minutes from the Austrian border, this attractive old Bavarian town which was once a Roman crossroads garrison. It has since attracted Kings and Bishops to build splendid castles in and around the town. We visit the Franciscan Monastry and St Mang’s Abbey, wander around streets of Fussen Altstadt (old town) and walk up to the Hohes Schloss (High Castle). The following day we take the short 10 minute drive to Neuschwanstein Castle and wander around the grounds of this world famous "Disneyland Castle" including the Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge).
