“Data is an essential resource for economic growth, competitiveness, innovation, job creation and societal progress in general” [1]. Moreover, Industrial and Trustworthy AI is becoming a cornerstone in the Digital transformation and competitiveness of the European Industry. Opportunities presented by Industrial AI cannot be fully exploited without wider access to large volumes of cross-sectoral, unbiased, high-quality, and trustworthy data and knowledge [2]. Developments on data and Industrial AI need to move along in a coordinated manner as they are the two sides of the same coin. This is also reflected in the new Digital Strategy of the European Commission that has the Data Strategy and the White Paper on Artificial Intelligence as the main first pillars of this strategy [1]. New regulations for Data and AI are on their way in Europe. Large Investments in research, innovation, and deployment at European level (Horizon Europe and Digital Europe Programme) are planned for Data and AI. The newly adopted Recovery and Resilience Facility will make available a minimum of €134 billion for Member States to foster the Digital Transition [3].

The ambitions, opportunities and challenges ahead urge for cross-border collaboration, and for mechanisms, common frameworks, and tools to support industries to move faster. Dialog among European and national policy makers, industry, research, public sector and civic society is needed in the definition of common roadmaps for the development and adoption of the of a pan-European Data Sharing Space in full alignment with the development and adoption of Industrial AI in Europe. A strong Data and Industrial AI ecosystem is needed in Europe.

Through this panel we will hear different perspectives of how this double and complementary challenge, data, and Industrial AI, needs to be tackled at European level. We will hear about the different plans, common ambitions, and collaboration mechanisms to be put in place.
