VIENNA ???????? Christmas Market 2 but WHAT IS IT LIKE?!
???? Save this for the future and tag someone who you’d like to go here with!
Hello I’m Chelsea and I’m currently doing a #ChristmasMarketCrawl around Europe and you voted that I should head to VIENNA next!
???? So after a 2 hour 40 mins train from Budapest (absolute recommend doing it as a twin city break, by the way!) I landed in Austria’s Capital ????????
There’s several markets but I headed straight to the biggest and most well known:
???? Wiener Christkindlmarkt am Rathausplatz
The market is in the wake of the City Hall and BOY is it impressive ????
Other things I liked:
????Loads of space and really accessible - saw lots of prams, wheelchairs, people with walking aids. I didn’t see any steps.
????So beautifully decorated. They’ve gone above and beyond with the ‘extras’ and made a real show of it. It’s feels MAGICAL!
????Mulled wine mugs!
????The ice skating is EPIC. It’s on a track and so it feels more fun than simply going around in circles. Plus, you can skate for free at 9:30pm before it closes.
????No blaring music - am I just an old person for this though?! ????
Things I thought could have been better:
????There wasn’t much food and drink on offer and so there were lots of queues in peak times
????It did get really busy but I think I only felt that because of the queues - otherwise, there really is a lot of space so it wasn’t too bad (I went Thurs eve)
???? Prices ????
I thought they were alright. Not too cheap, but not outrageous either!
???? Overall ????
LOVED IT. A real spectacle. So impressed with the decoration and the production of it all!
But I’d probably just stick to drinking mulled wine and taking in the atmosphere - other markets and better (and cheaper!) for food.
SPEAKING OF WHICHL
????I know there’s some other amazing markets in Vienna and so check out Schoenbrunn - that came well recommended!
???? LET ME KNOW…
Does this look like your kinda market? And can we please talk about how that man handled those sausages… HAHA
