In this video, you'll be taken on a journey through another of Italy's best 20 wine regions to visit and enjoy - the north-east area of the country.

So what images do the likes of Venice , Bardolino, Romeo and Juliet, and The Dolomites evoke in your mind?

If you watch the video to the very end, you'll be able to gain access to a Special Guide that will make your introduction to la dolce vita.... even sweeter!

So, as one of Italy's best 20 wine regions to visit and enjoy, the north-east has lots to offer.

There are 4 outstanding wine regions in the north-east of the country that epitomise the romanticism that people associate with the likes of Verona and Venice, and these regions are:

1. Veneto;

2. Emilia-Romagna;

3. Trentino Alto-Adigé; and

4. Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

The Dolomites dominate the mountain ranges and play a significant role in the wine varieties produced.

#1. Veneto.

This region is spoilt with Lake Garda to the west, the Alps to the north, and an Adriatic coastline, so it’s no surprise to learn that more wine is produced in this area of the north-east than elsewhere.

Favourites such as the red Bardolino, the white wines of Sóávé and Lugana, the Bardolino rosé, and the sparkling Prosecco dominate these regions.

You really are spoilt for choice!

However, when it comes to matching wine with Veneto’s cuisine, then rice, beans and polenta abound.

Risottos are a staple diet throughout Veneto.

The Adriatic Sea and Lake Garda play a prominent role in the supply of fresh fish, along with musssels, anchovies and crabs, but it's the Veneto cod that stands out.

#2. Emilia-Romagna.

This region is dominated by the River Po, with many vineyards lining its banks.

It produces red wines such as Sangiovese and Barbera, and the sparkling red wine of Lambrúsco, and white wines such as Trebbiano, Albana and Chardonnay.

This region is a big producer of wine, and when you consider that Bologna is known as the food capital of Italy, you can really spoil yourself in this region!

#3. Trentino Alto-Adigé.

Acquired as part of Italy in 1919 from the old Austro-Hungarian empire, and bordering Austria, this region has a very Germanic feel to it, and it's reflected in the wines it produces.

The Dolomites provide a spectacular backdrop to the vineyards, and with a volcanic soil, some interesting red and white wines are produced, such as Merlot, Pinot Noir and Schiava; and Pinot Grígíó, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Müller-Thurgau.

Because of the German and Austro-Hungarian influence, many dishes include gnócchi (which is potato and flour dumplings) and speck (a smoke-cured prosciutto).

#4. Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

About 75% of wine produced in this region are white wines, as a consequence of the rich mineral soil and the hot summers.

It is known as a highly regarded region producing high-quality wines, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grígíó.

The sparkling wines of Prosecco and Verduzzo are also produced, as is the red wine of Merlot.

As you can now appreciate, the north-east wine region of Italy has plenty to offer you.

In the next video, you'll get to know of the third group of the 20 wine regions of Italy, when we head south to the central regions.

Here's to your next glass of Italian wine!
