Welcome to The Astana Times weekly news digest — your trusted source for Kazakhstan’s top stories and global developments.

This week’s edition covers President Tokayev’s meeting with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian in Astana, where the two leaders elevated bilateral cooperation with new agreements on trade, logistics, agriculture, and regional connectivity. With Kazakhstan exporting record volumes of agricultural goods and major upgrades planned for the North–South transport corridor, the partnership is moving into a new stage of strategic growth.

We then turn to Europe, where Kazakhstan and Austria committed to expanding their strategic partnership during Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev’s visit to Vienna. Talks focused on industrial modernization, green technologies, logistics, and investment — building on the presence of more than 170 Austrian companies already active in Kazakhstan.

Across Central Asia, tourism numbers are surging. In 2024, the region welcomed 28.6 million foreign visitors, with Kazakhstan leading the momentum thanks to growing flight connections, visa-free travel, and a booming hospitality sector.

And finally, global music icon Dimash Qudaibergen has been appointed a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the International Organization for Migration. His advocacy on behalf of migrant communities and his worldwide platform earned him recognition at IOM’s annual council session in Geneva.
