Taiwan's Immigration Agency has announced an amnesty on foreign nationals in the country who have overstayed their visa. The number of these people has ballooned during the pandemic. The new U.S. House speaker, Kevin McCarthy, has rejected Beijing's warning against reported plans for a visit to Taiwan, saying China cannot dictate where he can go. And the former head of the U.S. Navy's Indo-Pacific Command has met with President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei. Also:
- Taiwanese carsharing app iRent is under investigation and could face a fine for a data breach that leaked the information of thousands of its users.
- A team of conservationists who have rescued sea turtles along Taiwan's coastline for 25 years has disbanded over a dispute over government funding.
- Inflation continues to drive up prices in Taiwan with buffet restaurants and airfares seeing price increases since Lunar New Year.
