The Beauty Of Bled - Slovenia's Maribor, Solčava and Lake Bled | Next Stop Everywhere

The stunning sights of Slovenia await as we arrive into another amazing European nation on our BIG 2020 euro road trip!

*** This video was recorded in early October, before Slovenia's rise in Covid-19 cases, curfew and lockdown ***

Crossing the border from Graz in Austria, we arrive into Slovenia's second biggest city, Maribor. A beautiful place but somehow often overlooked as a tourist destination. The charming capital, Ljubljana (in a later vid!) seems to steal all of the attention... and while there is no disputing that visiting Ljubljana for the city sights is a must, Maribor is distinctly different, offering a ‘real-life’ vibe, with an incredible inner city wine culture and a surrounding area which abounds in nature retreats. Speaking of wine culture, did you know Maribor is home to Europe's oldest grape-producing vine? Over 400 years old!

Next up, we head... erm... up, into the Julian Alps bound for a relatively new tourist attraction, the stunning Solčava Panoramic Road. Consisting of three mapped and marked routes that wind for 37km through this incredible mountain range, along the road there are many scenic pullouts as well as a wide variety of Slovenian tourist farms that welcome visitors for farm fresh local food, drink and other locally made goods... although as you'll see, when we were there, snow laid on the ground and everything was closed - still the views were utterly breathtaking!

Finally, for this vid, we park up on the shores of the world famous Lake Bled. Found in the northwestern corner of Slovenia, nestled in between the Alps to the north, and Triglav National Park to the west, Lake Bled is sub-alpine lake, meaning it's crystal clear and has a deep blue tinge to the calm and serene waters. All with a backdrop of steep banks, the amazing Julian Alps, the petite-yet-perfect town of Bled (from which the lake gets it's name) and focused on the Instagram-dream that is Bled Island in the centre. Being possibly the most famous sight (and site) in Slovenia, Lake Bled did not disappoint - and we also get to sample the world-famous 'Bled Cake' at the very hotel it was created in too - more info on that in the vid!
