This video is an overview of the Malta valley, Austria. Here at 220m, the Fallbach waterfall in the Maltatal is the highest waterfall in Carinthia. It is located about 6km after the village of Malta and can be admired very well from the valley. The waterfall is a natural monument and is therefore specially protected. Also, no other waterfall in Carinthia offers the opportunity to experience natural beauty so closely. On the one hand, there are vantage points directly below and next to the waterfall.
Today the waterfall falls over a large rock face that rises directly from the valley floor.
History:
This escarpment is the geological result of the digging and grinding work of the last great ice age. In the course of the last hundred thousand years there have been many large glaciations in the Alps. In the Maltatal, the ice cover reached up to the world of the 3000m peaks. Consequently, the valley was covered with more than 2km of ice. This was also the case in the last glacial maximum up to around 20,000 years ago. The mighty forces of the ice have scraped away all the loose rock on the side of the valley until just the bare rock face remained. This is also known as a trough shoulder. It is precisely over this that the Fallbach tumbles down into the valley in its unmistakably spectacular way.
