Four days in Vienna.
Vienna is the national capital, the largest city and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is the most populous city in Austria, with about 2 million inhabitants (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, almost a third of the country's population), and its cultural, economic and political center. It is the 6th largest city in population within the city limits in the European Union.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, Vienna was the largest German-speaking city in the world and before the break-up of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in World War I, the city had a population of 2 million. Today, it is the second largest German-speaking city after Berlin. Vienna is home to many important international organizations, including the United Nations, OPEC and the OSCE. The city is located in the eastern part of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. These areas work together in a border area of the European Center. Along with nearby Bratislava, Vienna is a metropolitan area with a population of 3 million. In 2001, the city center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In July 2017 it was transferred to the List of World Heritage in Danger. In addition, Vienna is known as the "City of Music" because of its heritage music, as many famous classical musicians such as Beethoven and Mozart called Vienna its home. Vienna is also said to be the "City of Dreams" because it is home to the world's first psychoanalyst, Sigmund Freud. The ancestral roots of Vienna are found in early Celtic and Roman settlements that were transformed into a medieval and baroque city. It is known that it played a decisive role as a leading European music center, from the era of Viennese classicism to the beginning of the 20th century. Vienna's historic center is rich in architectural ensembles, such as baroque palaces and gardens, and the late 19th-century Ringstraße with large buildings, monuments and parks.

Vienna is known for its high quality of life. In a 2005 study of 127 cities around the world, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked the city first (tied with Vancouver and San Francisco) among the most sustainable cities in the world. Between 2011 and 2015, Vienna ranked second, behind Melbourne. Monocle's Quality of Life Survey in 2015 ranked Vienna second on the list of the world's top 25 cities "to build a base within". Monocle's Quality of Life Survey in 2012 ranked Vienna fourth on the list of the world's top 25 cities "to build a base within" (sixth in 2011 and eighth in 2010). UN-Habitat named Vienna the most prosperous city in the world in 2012/2013. The city was ranked 1st in the world for the culture of innovation in 2007 and 2008 and 6th in the world (out of 256 cities) in the Innovation Cities Index of 2014, which analyzed 162 indicators in three areas: culture, infrastructure and markets. Vienna hosts regular urban planning conferences and is often used as a case study by urban planners. Between 2005 and 2010, Vienna was the number one destination in the world for international conferences and seminars. It attracts over 6.8 million tourists annually.
