Welcome back. Long time before I made this trip to Freising in the district of Munich I have heard many good things about the town. At first the location, near Munich, the small distance to the Alps and the influence of the catholic church is something what I like in my journeys. But the situation to make the video was nearly like a countdown with a coming thunderstorm. Watch my video to find out what is happened in Freising.
My trip:
I went by car in the district of Munich the capital of Bavaria to the town Freising. It was extremely easy to find a parking place in the small city center. At first I walked trough the long passage which includes a marking place a shopping mall with some nice shops and restaurants. I came to the place where I found a memorial monument for the last pope “Joseph Ratzinger which have been here at Freising in 2006. According to the coming thunderstorm it was very windy and cold. Freising is also known for its gastronomic scene. At the lunch time I visited a nice restaurant for having lunch at the “Marienplatz”. After enjoying a lunch I went up to the famous Dome of Freising and according to other Domes what I´ve seen in the past, it was one of my best visit at a Dome ever. The building was not all with the main hall. Behind the church I came to a long floor in form of a cloister with stone boards from historical bishops of the Dome and the town. Personally I wanted to show you the famous brewery “Weinstephan”, but after leaving the Dome dark clouds were coming in the sky and it was a spectacular view to see how the thunderstorm flew over the town for the end of the video.
The town Freising:
The small town Freising, located at the district of Munich Bavaria’s capital is part of a group of towns in a region at the north east part of Munich. Together with “Erding”, “Landshut” and “Moosburg” and over this Germanys second busiest Airport Munich or Franz- Joseph Strauß Airport (MUC) makes the town nearly famous. Freising has its name especially for its Dome and the catholic church. But also the city center is nice to see and has a light feeling of their buildings of Tirol and south Tirol at Austria and the northern part of Italy. From the hill where the Dome is positioned the view is wide to see the alps from Salzburg to the Allgäu alps and Germanys highest mountain the “Zugspitze”. The infrastructure is pretty good and the German railway company “Deutsche Bahn” connects the town with trains to Munich, Landshut and Regensburg. To visit Fresing is a trip to every time in the year.
About the Dome of Freising:
The Dome of Freising is also famous for the name “Mariendom” (german language). In the year 715 the first church for the holy Maria was built at the place where the Dome is positioned. In the many century’s the Dome was rebuild and new buildings were coming to the church. The todays Dome has a romesquere base. The inside of the Dome is full with stuck and frescos in form of holy rulers and the life in the sky. Interesting as well. The last pope Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) got his priestly ordination in the Dome and study from 1946 to 1951 here at the Dome and Freising theology. In 2006 as a pope he visited Freising the last time and in pleasure of his visit the monument at the “Marienplatz” at the city center wear a sign with his name in memories of his visit. Still today the town is used for priestly ordination by theology students. On Easter, Christmas and Pfingst time, in the Dome will the holy event celebrated.
