Welcome to the city centre and old town of Sankt Pölten!
Sankt Pölten has been the state capital since 1986 in Lower Austra and has 56,360 inhabitants. In terms of its population, Sankt Pölten ranks ninth on the list of Austrian cities.
In fact, Sankt Pölten claims to be the oldest city in Austria. However, there are other cities in Austria that would like to make this claim for themselves. The city has the oldest certified municipal law in Austria. Already in 1159 she was awarded this by Bishop Konrad of Passau. At the same time, St. Pölten is a Baroque capital.
