About this Event

2021 will be a pivotal year in Scottish politics and the European dimension will loom large in the quickening debate about independence. This was an in-depth look at the prospect of an independent Scotland joining the European Union.

From the London School of Economics, Prof James Ker-Lindsay will bring his expertise on secession movements and the accession experience of the Balkan states.

From Edinburgh, Dr Kirsty Hughes is an expert on the politics and policy of EU accession, including on the 2004 enlargement to central and eastern Europe.

From Berlin, Dr Barbara Lippert (Director of Studies, Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik), an expert on EU Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policies.

From Dublin, Prof Tobias Lock (Maynooth University where he occupies the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Law and Fundamental Rights) is also a member of the German bar and will bring deep expertise on EU constitutional law and politics.
