Welcome to Zugspitze, the highest peak in all of Germany, and also known as "The Top of Germany". From the Zugspitze mountain top, you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree views of around 400 majestic Alpine peaks in four countries: Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland. Zugspitze mountain towers 2,962 meters, or 9,718 feet, above sea level.
Visiting the highest mountain in Germany is easy. In this video, we show you how to get to the Zugspitze from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. (The mountain straddles Germany and Austria, so you can ascend the mountain from either country.)
From Eibsee Lake, catch the cogwheel train or cable car to Zugspitze. The Zugspitze cable car is an amazing journey up a very steep ascent. Once at the summit, there is an entire day's worth of attractions to explore, and the fresh mountain air is simply invigorating.
Be sure to snap a photo with the golden summit cross which marks the highest point in Germany, the pinnacle of Zugspitze.
At the summit, you will find a restaurant, beer garden, a small museum, the Zugspitzplatt Glacier, an igloo village, seasonal skiing, tobogganing, and even a tiny wedding chapel. And only a few meters from the summit is Munich House, Germany’s highest mountain hut.
Be sure to plan some time during your visit to explore the gorgeous Eibsee Lake at the foot of Zugspitze. There is a trail that runs around the lake, and the scenery is simply magical. Consider staying at the Eibsee Hotel, which boasts stunning mountain and lake views.
Eibsee Lake and Eibsee Hotel are the perfect additions to your Zugspitze itinerary when visiting Germany and in particular, Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If you enjoyed this video, please consider liking, sharing, and subscribing!
