Castello di Miramare is a stunning 19th-century castle located on the Gulf of Trieste, in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Built between 1856 and 1860 by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria, the castle is situated in a beautiful park that covers an area of over 22 hectares.

The castle was designed by the Austrian architect Carl Junker in a neo-Gothic style, and it was originally intended to be a private residence for the Archduke and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium. In 1864, Maximilian was appointed Emperor of Mexico by Napoleon III, but his reign was short-lived, and he was eventually captured and executed by Mexican rebels in 1867. His wife, Charlotte, never recovered from the shock of his death and spent the rest of her life in seclusion.

Today, Castello di Miramare is open to the public as a museum, and visitors can explore the castle's impressive interiors and enjoy the beautiful views from its terraces and gardens. The castle is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, and it remains one of the most iconic landmarks of the Trieste region.
