Trieste is the capital city of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in northeast Italy. Founded by the Ancient Romans, it stands on the Adriatic coast below the Karst Plateau, a few kilometers from the border with Slovenia. Historic Italian, Austro-Hungarian and Slavic cultural influences are all evident in its layout, which encompasses a medieval old city and a neoclassical Austrian quarter.

The Castle of San Giusto is a fortress - museum located on the homonymous hill , in Trieste .

As a historic residence, it was restored in the years of this decade and turned into a civic museum of Trieste municipality, where the property belongs since 1930 . On Bastion Lalio was inaugurated on April 4 , 2001 the Lapidary Tergestino consists inscriptions , sculptures , bas-reliefs and fragments of architecture of Roman times .

It can be visited only in part: in particular, in addition to the lapidary, are accessible the Chapel , the Caprin room, the large courtyard - home to exhibitions in the summer - and the stands, which offers a wide view of the city below.

You enter the fortress through a drawbridge of small proportions that was not the original medieval entrance, still visible on the left. The castle is full of historical inscriptions and memorial stones in the entrance and immediately you notice among some banners military, the coats of arms of patrician families of the city.

On the left starts a corridor that leads to the ancient firing positions, while the right door to the hall Museum of weapons and the gatehouse.

Steps lead on the roof terrace, from where you pass in the huge courtyard, designed for the parade, and now home to many events , cultural and entertainment . From the edge of the courtyard you can go up in the stands where you can enjoy a spectacular view on those parts of the city that could be seen from the terrace.

Below the castle there are many tunnels and various rooms that are not open to the public, some being still in the process of exploration. One of the cellars, reachable from the outside, for decades home to the elegant restaurant city of high category.
