Hallstatt in Austria is located in the Salzkammergut some 3 hours from Vienna and about 1 hour from Salzburg city. The village is sometimes called the most beautiful village in Austria, and it's known all over the world for its rustic looking houses, backdrop of mountains and serene lake ambience. About a million people from all over the world visit this beautiful small village every year.
The village is also known for much more than that. Salt has been traded her for a thousand of years and the mines are located right above the village. One can visit the salt mines and learn something about its prehistoric history.
Salt back then was used like gold to trade and barter. Hallstatt, then, was the capital of the Celtic kingdom, Noricum. At some point, the Romans took over because the mountains were also known to produce exceptional steel. This was just the beginning of a long Roman rule over those Austrian regions.
There are two churches in Hallstatt, the bottom one is an evangelist church, the top one is a Catholic Church. Traditionally, Catholics would keep the skull of their dead family members, and they would be decorated. Those are kept next to the Catholic Church and one can visit the place. Unfortunately, they don't allow filming and pictures there anymore. We did visit a few years ago, when they still allowed it, and you can read more here on my travel website https://paulmarina.com/hallstatt-austria/ #asmr #hallstatt #austria
