Szécsény is a small town in the heart of Nógrád county, Hungary with a colorful historical heritage dating back to the Middle Ages. The estate for sale lies in the centre of the town, in the neighbourhood of the baroque Forgách castle, the ancient Franciscan church and monastery and the historical Fire Tower. The town itself is in the close vicinity of Hollókő (a World Heritage Site with its historical village) and Ipolytarnóc (a famous geological park, the “prehistoric Pompeii”). Nógrád county is a popular hunting area that many hunters visit regularly from Austria and Hungary.

The Building

The first premises on the estate date back to the Middle Ages, that have been modified and expanded in many stages through the centuries. In the 14th century it was the part of the fortification wall with four bastions around the castle and the town. One of those bastions is part of the estate, that received an architecture award for its reconstruction in 2011 and became one of the emblematic buildings of Nógrád county. Under the building lies a large cellar. Built mostly in the 17th and 18th century it holds many beautiful details, the oldest rooms are dated back to the 14th century. As of today the building is operating as a restaurant, guesthouse and event center.
